School Bus Update

Dear Families,

Starting Monday, January 9, 2023, all students riding the bus will have to use their student ID to scan on and off the bus. If they do not have their student ID they can keep a picture of the barcode on their phone. If a student chooses not to scan their ID they will not be able to ride the bus home and will be sent back into the building to call a parent or guardian for a ride home. This will ensure any student that rides a bus can be accounted for and will enhance their safety.

We are excited to announce that the Storm Lake Community School District has partnered with UniteGPS to enhance transportation safety. Crosswalk K-12 is a mobile web app provided by UniteGPS that’s designed to make the transportation process more convenient and streamlined for students, families, and drivers.

Soon enough, you will be able to enjoy numerous features on Crosswalk K-12, such as Route View where you can track your children’s location on the bus through a live map. There is also the Student Stop Report to review ridership data, messages to receive important announcements from the transportation department, among other tools designed specifically for parents.

Since Crosswalk K-12 is not available over the Apple or Google Play store, you can expect an email from UniteGPS on January 15 to activate your account. It is very important that you click on the registration link from this email in order to complete the onboarding process.

We will send out a reminder before January 15, but wanted to make you aware as soon as possible.

As always, we are committed to ensuring our students are as safe and secure as possible as we transport them to and from school each day.

Sincerely,

Jeff Tollefson
